Pit-fired pottery handmade by indigenous artisans in the Sierra of Oaxaca, Mexico.
Using local clay, these pieces are slowly pit-fired over the course of several hours. The high heat and length of firing results in extremely durable, long-lasting pieces.
As this is a handmade piece of art, variation in color, size and form is expected. Additionally, the black markings that adorn its surface are the result of its burning during the pit-firing process, and will vary in each piece.
Care: Hand wash only. Do not place in the dishwasher or microwave. Unglazed pottery will sweat if holding water, so it is recommended to place a protective plate underneath if using for this purpose. Over time, this will lessen and will create a unique patina from the water filtration. Food safe, although greasy or oily food may cause staining.
