Incredibly beautiful traditional pottery from the Berber tribes of the Rif Mountains in Morocco.
The color is a deep espresso brown shade over a simple hand painted design. This color pottery is quite rare for this region, making it an extra special piece. There are two looped handles on either side of the jar.
Traditional methods by the Berber artisans include sourcing local clay, shaping each pot by hand, then firing each piece to set it's final form. Berber motifs unique to each tribe are painted by hand with natural henna or other mineral pigments. Each piece is a unique work of art.
Traditional uses include storage or transportation of liquids; preservation of olives, dates, sugar, honey or spices, and much much more.
As this is a handmade piece of art, variation in color, form and wear from age is expected.
Sturdy feel. Large size vessel, can be displayed on the floor, set on a shelf or placed on a table.
